On Thursday 12th October at 6 pm in the Hotel Belvedere there will be a lecture given by Dr Denis Oswald, a Swiss Representative on the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He has been a member of the IOC since 1991 and in 2013 he was a candidate for the IOC presidency. Dr.Oswald made his sporting name as a champion rower – thirteen times Swiss National Rowing Champion and three times an Olympic participant in the Swiss Rowing team (Bronze medal Mexico, 1968). He holds a degree in law from the University of Neuchâtel as well as a Doctorate in law from Cambridge. He has combined these two areas of expertise as Chairman of the IOC Disciplinary Commission as well as a Judge at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. He holds numerous other sporting and legal positions and honours, including Head of the Coordination Commission for the London Olympics of 2012. The topic of his talk will be: “The selection of Olympic Games host cities and the preparation and running of the Games”.
