The Vincenzo Vela Museum
On Sunday 12th March we will meet for an interesting outing to visit The Vincenzo Vela Museum in Ligornetto (near Mendrisio). The guided tour in English will start at 10:00 am. Those interested in this outing are kindly asked to meet us in front of the museum at 9:45 am. The Vela museum is one of the most important artists' house-museums to have been erected in nineteenth century Europe. The Ticinese sculptor Vincenzo Vela earned the highest honours at the time of the unification of Italy. Beside the private gallery of Vincenzo Vela the museum includes a remarkable collection of nineteenth-century Lombard and Piedmont paintings, hundreds of autographic drawings and one of the earliest private collections of photographs.
The guided tour will be sponsored by the Club. The entrance ticket will cost CHF 8.00 per person, to be paid by the participants.
How to get there: Follow the high-way direction Milan. Exit Mendrisio. Follow the sign direction Stabio. After a short distance exit to the right, direction Rancate–Arnzo. Before reaching Rancate you come to a roundabout where you take the exit direction Ligornetto. Pass the village church and you'll be arriving at the museum of Vela.
