On Saturday 16th September at 6 pm in the Hotel Belvedere members are invited to join an Opening Dinner. At 6 pm there will be an aperitif and at 7 pm dinner. The price for the menu is CHF 68.00 without drinks and the menu card is enclosed. On Wednesday 20th September at 11:00 we have booked a tour in Como. We will have a guided tour of the Educational Silk Museum. It presents the history of textile production in Como, preserving and exhibiting the machinery, documents, samples and tools from the traditional textile processes that qualify Como to be known as the “Silk City.” The cost for the entrance tickets is EU 7 which will have to be purchased at the museum. A guided tour is paid for by the club. You’ll find parking at the museum or there is a public parking lot near the museum. To drive, take the highway to Italy through Chiasso and exit at Como Centre, then on to the Museum at via Castelnuovo 9. We will meet at the entrance to the museum at 10:45 a.m. Those who wish to have lunch together afterwards will find many possible restaurants in the vicinity. No restaurant has been booked.

On Thursday 12th October at 6 pm in the Hotel Belvedere there will be a lecture given by Dr Denis Oswald, a Swiss Representative on the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He has been a member of the IOC since 1991 and in 2013 he was a candidate for the IOC presidency. Dr.Oswald made his sporting name as a champion rower – thirteen times Swiss National Rowing Champion and three times an Olympic participant in the Swiss Rowing team (Bronze medal Mexico, 1968). He holds a degree in law from the University of Neuchâtel as well as a Doctorate in law from Cambridge. He has combined these two areas of expertise as Chairman of the IOC Disciplinary Commission as well as a Judge at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. He holds numerous other sporting and legal positions and honours, including Head of the Coordination Commission for the London Olympics of 2012. The topic of his talk will be: “The selection of Olympic Games host cities and the preparation and running of the Games”. On Saturday 21st October at 6pm we will meet in the Club Rooms for our Chestnut Roast. The price per person is CHF 7.00 for the chestnuts supplied by the Club. Members bring their own drinks and any additional food they wish to have. Please remember that this is one of the most favoured and most attended club events, and booking is required early enough to get seats.
